Melbourne weddings come in every shape. Laneway elopements in the CBD, vineyard receptions in the Yarra Valley, beach ceremonies down at Mornington, forest gatherings up in the Dandenongs. No two days look the same here, and we don't want them to.
We're Jay Chubby Wedding, a small studio. Jay shoots every wedding personally. The person you meet at consultation is the same person behind the camera on your day, editing your gallery, and answering your emails the night before.

How We Photograph Melbourne Weddings
We're not chasing trends. The photos that age best are the ones that look honest, so that's the way we work.
Show up early. Know the run sheet better than anyone. Get the family portraits done quickly so you can get back to your guests. Then step back and let the day breathe. The shots we love most are usually the ones nobody saw us take.
Our default is a mix of documentary and editorial. We shoot in natural light when we can, off-camera flash when the venue forces our hand, and we don't run trendy filters that'll feel dated by your fifth anniversary.
Where We Shoot in Melbourne
We cover the city, the surrounding wine country, and the coast. Most Saturday mornings you'll find us setting up somewhere between the CBD and the Yarra Valley.
Melbourne CBD & Inner Suburbs
Royal Botanic Gardens, Carlton Gardens, Royal Exhibition Building, Old Treasury Building, Hosier Lane, Albert Park, Fitzroy. The city venues that work hardest in photos are the ones with strong architecture and consistent light.
Yarra Valley
Stones of the Yarra Valley, Immerse, Yering Station, Chateau Yering, RiverStone Estate. Vineyard weddings give you the long golden hour and wide shots that look great printed at scale.
Mornington Peninsula
Polperro, Montalto, Lindenderry, Jackalope, Peninsula Picnic. Coastal venues are unpredictable, which is part of why they work. The light shifts every fifteen minutes.
Forest Edge, Poet’s Lane, Tatra Receptions, SkyHigh Mount Dandenong. Misty forests, tall gums, winding roads and softer mountain light. Dandenong weddings feel intimate and cinematic in a completely different way to the vineyards.
Dandenong Ranges
Oakdene Vineyards, Jack Rabbit, Curlewis Estate, Terindah Estate. The quieter alternative to the Yarra Valley, with the same vineyard backdrops plus ocean views. Less than an hour from Melbourne and the venues here photograph beautifully in late afternoon light.
Geelong & Bellarine Peninsula
Werribee & West
Lancemore Mansion Hotel, The Park, Werribee Mansion. Quieter side of Melbourne, often more affordable, and fewer photographers know how to shoot here properly.
Hanging Rock, Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm, Campaspe Run, The Briars Country House. Country wedding venues an hour north of the city. Open fields, old stone buildings, and golden grass that turns every wide shot into something cinematic.
Macedon Ranges
Phillip Island & Gippsland
Silverwater Resort, Churchill Island, Cape Schanck, Coal Creek. The drive out gets longer but the venues earn it. Coastal cliffs, working farms, and a kind of light you don't get anywhere closer to the city.

Our Melbourne Wedding Photography Style
Most couples come in with a Pinterest board and a vague idea. That's enough. We talk through what you've been drawn to, look at the venue, and work out what fits.
Documentary / Candid
Hands-off, observational. We watch the day unfold and shoot what's actually happening. This is our default through ceremony, reception, and most candid coverage.
More directed. Considered framing, fashion-influenced lighting, intentional poses for portraits. Editorial works well in venues with strong architecture or for couples who want their photos to feel a bit elevated.
Editorial
Heavier contrast, richer tones, slower pace. We borrow from how wedding films are graded. Yarra Valley vineyards and Werribee mansions take this style well.
Cinematic
Hybrid
What we actually do most days. Documentary through the ceremony, editorial in the portrait window, cinematic where the venue calls for it. You shouldn't have to pick one and live with it for the whole day.

”We had such a great experience with Jay Chubby Wedding. My partner and I were part of a pre-wedding shoot, and the whole process was smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. They made us feel comfortable in front of the camera, gave just the right amount of direction, and the photos turned out incredible. You can really see the care and attention to detail in their work. Highly recommend to any couple looking for wedding photography that feels both professional and personal.”

Frequently asked questions
How much does a wedding photographer cost in Melbourne?
Melbourne wedding photography typically runs from $2,500 for short ceremony coverage to $8,000+ for full-day premium packages. Our packages start at $1,150. The biggest factors are coverage hours, second photographer inclusion, and whether you're booking video alongside.
Do you offer hybrid photo and video packages?
Yes. Booking photography and videography together gets you 10% off the combined total plus a coordinated team that knows how to share angles and timing. Most of our Melbourne couples book hybrid.
How far in advance should we book a Melbourne wedding photographer?
For peak season (October to April), book 9 to 12 months ahead. Saturdays at popular venues like Stones of the Yarra Valley fill up first. Weekday weddings and off-peak dates can usually be booked 4 to 6 months out.
Do you cover destination weddings outside Melbourne?
Yes. We regularly shoot in the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong Ranges, Geelong, Macedon Ranges, and Phillip Island without travel fees. For weddings further afield, we'll quote travel separately.
What's your photography style?
Hybrid. Documentary through ceremony and reception, editorial for portrait sessions, cinematic where the venue takes it. We tailor the balance to the day rather than locking you into one look.
How many photos will we receive?
A typical eight-hour Melbourne wedding delivers 500 to 800 edited photos. We don't deliver unedited shots. You get our best work, fully retouched.
When will we get our wedding photos?
Within 3 weeks of your wedding day. We send a sneak peek gallery within 48 hours so you have something to share with family and friends straight away.
Do you photograph weddings in Adelaide as well?
Yes, we shoot weddings in Adelaide too. If you're planning an Adelaide wedding, see our Adelaide wedding photography page.
