A wedding at home is the most relaxed day there is: your own garden, your own music, nobody booked in after you and no last drinks call.

It asks for a little more planning than a venue, and we're happy to help with that.

Your parents' garden, the family farm, a house you've rented in the Hills. A wedding at home, photographed and filmed by a small team that knows how to work in a house and a backyard. Collections from $1,190.

Your place, room by room

A wedding at home

Every house has a room with the best morning light, a spot in the garden for the vows and a table everyone fits around. We walk the place with you before the day and plan everything around it.

Before the day

The space Walk the garden and the house with your guest count in mind: where everyone stands for the vows, where they eat, where they dance, and where they go if it rains.

The rules In Victoria, amplified music at a house has to stop by 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and by 10 pm on other nights if the neighbours can hear it inside their homes. Other states have their own rules, and your council can tell you what applies. A large marquee may need an approval too; your hire company will know.

The basics Toilets for the numbers, power for the music, the lights and the catering, parking, bins, and a wet weather plan.

The neighbours A friendly note with the date and the finish time goes a long way.

Renting a house or an Airbnb

Tell the owner it's a wedding before you book, with your numbers, your times and your music, and get their yes in writing. Airbnb's rules ban disruptive parties and open-invite gatherings, and hosts can't advertise their homes as event venues, so a ceremony for the people staying is a different thing from a hundred guests and a band. Ask too whether the owner's insurance covers an event, or take out event insurance of your own.

Joanna and Krish rented a country house in Summertown, in the Adelaide Hills, for their wedding in November 2025. They got ready in the house, married under a big old tree in the garden with a handful of guests, changed into robes and jumped in the pool, and we took their portraits in the lavender with the hills rolling away behind them. Their film is on this page, and the whole day is in their story.

How we photograph a day at home

We arrive early and walk the place with you: the bedroom with the softest window light for getting ready, the corner of the garden where the afternoon sun is kind to the vows, the table everyone fits around and the patch of lawn that turns into a dance floor. A house has none of a venue's lighting, so we plan for window light by day and warm light at night. And we keep our footprint small, because a home should still feel like a home.

Airbnb is a trademark of Airbnb, Inc. We aren't connected with Airbnb; we photograph and film weddings wherever couples choose to have them.

★★★★★

We had such a wonderful experience with Jay Chubby Wedding in Melbourne. They captured the most beautiful, heartfelt moments of my husband, our daughter, and myself, and we couldn’t be happier with the results.

Questions couples ask

Can we get married in our backyard?
Yes. In Australia you can marry anywhere with an authorised celebrant, as long as your Notice of Intended Marriage is lodged at least a month before the day.
Can we get married at an Airbnb?
Yes, if the owner agrees. Airbnb's rules ban disruptive parties and open-invite gatherings, and hosts can't advertise their homes as event venues, so tell the owner it's a wedding before you book and get their yes in writing, with your numbers and times.
Do we need a permit for a wedding at home?
A private wedding at home doesn't usually need one, but check with your council about noise, parking and any large marquee or structure. Your hire company will know what applies to a marquee.
How late can the music go?
In Victoria, amplified music at a house has to stop by 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and by 10 pm on other nights if the neighbours can hear it inside their homes. Other states have their own rules, and your council can tell you what applies.
What if it rains?
Choose a covered deck, a shed you can clear or a marquee, and plan the ceremony spot for both. We photograph the day either way.
How many guests can we have?
As many as the space, the owner and the council allow. Count everyone, including your celebrant, your suppliers and us.
Do you travel to properties in the Hills and the country?
Yes. Travel within 50 km of the CBD is included, and anything further is itemised in your quote.
Can you film it as well?
Yes. Photo and video collections start at $2,490, with one team covering both.
