Stone walls, ivy and a chapel in the garden, from the first look to the last dance.
As featured on

A castle wedding keeps everything on one estate: getting ready in a room inside, the vows in the garden or beside a little chapel, portraits on the stone and dinner within the walls.
We have photographed castle weddings at The Manor in the Adelaide Hills and at Avalon Castle in the Dandenong Ranges, one on a wet winter day and one on a hot summer afternoon, and each castle used its grounds in its own way.
Stone walls, ivy and a chapel in the garden, from the first look to the last dance. We have photographed castle weddings at The Manor in the Adelaide Hills and at Avalon Castle in the Dandenong Ranges, and we plan around the light inside the walls, the rain and the walk from the rooms to the garden. Collections from $2,490.
Our notes from each one: where to get ready, where the ceremony happens, the portrait spots and the plan for rain.
A grey July day in the Adelaide Hills, with private vows under the pergola, two family first looks and a ceremony beside the chapel in the rain.

A hot February day in the Dandenong Ranges, a ceremony under the timber pergola and children running the show.

Getting ready on site The Manor Basket Range has a bridal dressing room and twelve townhouse suites. Check-in is 2pm, so ask about the night before if you want to get ready in one. Avalon Castle has six ensuite guest rooms sleeping 22, which you allocate yourselves, and the Castle Cottage behind the castle is normally the couple's.
The ceremony spot At The Manor, ceremonies usually happen outside the copper-roofed Garden Chapel, beside a pond and a small waterfall. Avalon Castle offers its indoor Chapel, the Rose Terrace for up to 75 seated and a redwood Gazebo.
A rain plan Avalon Castle moves the ceremony into its Chapel, which is heated and cooled, but doesn't publish its capacity, so check it against your guest list. The Manor says a wedding goes ahead in any weather but doesn't name a wet weather ceremony room, so ask which one is yours.
Numbers The Manor's Pinchbeck Ballroom seats up to 220 and the Warwick Terrace Room up to 120. Avalon Castle's hall upstairs seats 120, or 130 for a cocktail reception, and it feels intimate rather than spacious, so walk through it set for dinner if your list is near the top.
Getting there and home The Manor is 25 to 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD, with a car park on site. Avalon Castle doesn't give a drive time, and it says Uber is unreliable in the area, so pre-book the trips home.
Fire season Both castles sit among tall trees in the hills. The Manor's safety page asks guests to plan for total fire ban days, so talk a summer date through with your venue.
We arrive early and walk the rooms and the grounds before anything starts, so we know where the light will be when we need it. Inside, tall windows give the softest light of the day: at The Manor, Porscha stood at one with a glass of champagne, then at a long mirror with her gown's laced back to the camera. Outside, stone and ivy suit black and white as well as colour, and the stone courtyard beneath The Manor's battlements, under a heavy winter sky, was made for it.
A castle puts a lot within a few minutes' walk. Porscha and Jordan had a first look on the castle terrace, then portraits in the courtyard, a deep stone archway, the garden and the woodland path to the chapel, all finished in about an hour and a quarter. At Avalon Castle, Jenna came out through the arched red door and down the stone steps to the pergola, the whole bridal party cheered on the castle steps under the ivy, and every guest gathered on the lawn for one group photograph from the drone. On a hot day we find shade for the family photographs, and on a wet one the clear umbrellas come out and the flagstones turn into a mirror.

Porscha and Jordan married at The Manor in Basket Range in the middle of winter, on a grey July day that kept threatening rain and, in the end, delivered it. They read private vows under the white pergola before any guest arrived, their guests sat under clear umbrellas on the wet stone beside the little Garden Chapel, and dinner ran long under candlelight on the covered stone terrace, in front of a giant Poké Ball made of pink and white flowers. They asked for a dark, moody edit with plenty of black and white, and the castle suited it.
Jenna and Nick married at Avalon Castle in Cockatoo on a hot Saturday in February 2026. Their children were part of everything, from the dressing table to the dance floor. The guests sat on timber decking under market umbrellas and small white parasols, the vows were said under a timber pergola in the garden below the castle, and the night ended with every generation of the family on the dance floor in the hall upstairs.

Jay was an absolute professional. We loved how he set out a time line of our day and made it all so easy. Also loved the contrast of the black and white to the colour pictures. The sneak peek shortly after the day was a lovely touch. Thank you Jay and Megan.

We're excited to work together and can't wait to get started!
